Why did you decide to become a Director of Studies?

Actually, I never wanted to be any kind of teacher – both my parents were teachers and I hated school! But, throughout my life I discovered that teaching was in my blood and it was something that I was good at even if I didn´t want to be! Having a very multicultural family I was naturally drawn to ESL teaching – I have a Korean sister, a Chinese aunt, an Italian aunt, and an American wife!.

Where have you taught ESL and travelled?

I have taught ESL in Korea and in Australia. Sadly, I haven´t travelled very much, but I have been to America and New Zealand. In Korea I taught all ages of students at all levels, from kindergarten children to retirees who learn English as a hobby. In Australia I have taught in government high schools and private English schools. I have taught Sudanese refugees, university students, retirees, and young school children.

What textbooks and materials do you use in your class?

I use the core texts used in Browns´ syllabi, as well as the carefully crafted supplementary material collated by myself and the other senior teaching staff.
