24-hour Support

During your time with us you will feel completely safe and supported. We have expert student support staff to help you with school and every aspect of your life on the Gold Coast. This sense of security will enable you to focus on enjoying the whole experience. We even issue our students with a special 24-hour emergency telephone number – meaning you have access to help from BROWNS counsellors night and day.

Jobs Club

We will provide you with FREE information about working in Australia and a list of job vacancies. Areas of employment include: Restaurants, Cafes, Hotels, Shops, Supermarkets, Travel/Tour Agencies and Fruit/Vegetable Farms. We also offer Career Counselling, Resume Preparation, Interview Skills Training and Application for an Australian Tax File Number.

Airport Pick-up Service

You can book our Airport Pick-up service from Brisbane International and Coolangatta (Gold Coast) Airport. When you arrive at the airport after a long day of travelling, a BROWNS representative driver will be there to welcome you and take you directly to your accommodation.

Orientation Day

First day at BROWNS
8:00 – 8:15am	Arrive at BROWNS English Language School You will receive a Personal Student Folder which contains information about your English Language course and attendance requirements. A Student Handbook, containing useful information about studying at BROWNS English Language School and living in Australia will also be given to you. To get your BROWNS Student Passport you will need to bring a passport size photo of yourself.
8:20 - 10:30	First day placement testing All students sit a placement test on their first day. This will test your listening, reading, grammar, vocabulary, speaking and writing skills. We use this test to help us place you in the correct class for your English level. The test will take approximately 1.5 hours. During your test you will have an oral interview with the Director of Studies or one of our teachers
10:45 - 11:30	School Schedule & Procedures Orientation
10:45 - 11:15	Explanation of School Rules, Class schedule (A, B and C) and timetable (Core class, Active8 and Accelerate), Student Services: Homestay Accommodation, 24-hour Personal Counselling, Opening a Bank Account, Job Search Support, Visa Information, Health Information, Academic Counselling and Travel around Australia (30 mins).
11:15 - 11:20	Introduction to the BROWNS Family, Teachers and Students
11:20 - 11:30	Homestay talk (by Accommodation)
11:30 - 11:40	Student Visa talk (by Registrar Team)
11:40 - 12:30	School & Surrounding Area Tour Tour of the school classrooms and facilities Tour of the Southport facilities Southport Library (borrowing rights) Banks (how to open a bank account) Transport (bus timetable and routes) Australia Fair Shopping Centre (shops and food outlets)
12:30 - 12:45	Facebook - reserved PCs.
12:45 - 14:00	Free Time for Lunch
14:00 - 15:00	Academic Counselling & Placement Interviews All students meet with the Director of Studies or a Senior Teacher on your first day so that you can receive your timetable, test results, find out which class you have been placed in, and plan your study programme for your time at BROWNS. All eligible students receive workbooks as part of the interview.
15:00	Orientation officially finishes

It is compulsory for students to attend orientation.
