Amanda TOWNSEND
Assistant Director of Studies (ADoS)
Welcome to BROWNS! I’m Amanda and I have a qualification in TESOL as well as a Bachelor of Arts (Music) and a Bachelor of Nursing.
I’ve had a great life so far. One of my passions in life is travel. I have been lucky enough to travel all around the world learning about other people and cultures. Some of my most interesting experiences abroad include hiking through the Andes to reach the ancient city of Machu Picchu , my encounter with a bad-tempered camel called Whisky at the Great Pyramids, surviving from the land for a week in the wilds of Tanzania , and camping with Bedouins in the Sahara Desert !
My time overseas has enabled me to develop my skills as an ESL teacher. I’ve taught ESL in Finland , Japan and Spain and really enjoy working with foreign students. I’ve been teaching English as a second language for about three years now and believe in the idea of education through enjoyment. I love talking about foreign cultures and traditions and learn a lot about the world from my students.
I love reading. I read anything and everything from magazines to novels and hope, sometime soon, to finish writing my own book. Some of my other pastimes include ‘tinkling the ivories’ (playing the piano), tending to my garden, and entertaining guests.
I am famous for hosting unforgettable “chocolate fondue, wine and poetry evenings” where my guests and I indulge in chocolate-covered fruit whilst sampling local wines and reading poetry to each other!
