24-hour Support

During your time with us you will feel completely safe and supported. We have expert student support staff to help you with school and every aspect of your life on the Gold Coast. This sense of security will enable you to focus on enjoying the whole experience. We even issue our students with a special 24-hour emergency telephone number – meaning you have access to help from BROWNS counsellors night and day.

Jobs Club

We will provide you with FREE information about working in Australia and a list of job vacancies. Areas of employment include: Restaurants, Cafes, Hotels, Shops, Supermarkets, Travel/Tour Agencies and Fruit/Vegetable Farms. We also offer Career Counselling, Resume Preparation, Interview Skills Training and Application for an Australian Tax File Number.

Airport Pick-up Service

You can book our Airport Pick-up service from Brisbane International and Coolangatta (Gold Coast) Airport. When you arrive at the airport after a long day of travelling, a BROWNS representative driver will be there to welcome you and take you directly to your accommodation.

Orientation Day

First day at BROWNS

8:00 – 8:15am

Arrive at BROWNS English Language School

8:15 - 9:00

BROWNS Welcome

  • Introduction to the BROWNS Team, Teachers and Students
  • Tour of the school classrooms and facilities

Explanation of Student Services: Homestay Accommodation, 24-hour Support, Opening a Bank Account, Job Search Support, Visa Information, Health Information, Academic Counselling and Travel around Australia .

9:00 - 10:30am

BROWNS Placement Test

  • All students sit a placement test on their first day. This will test your listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. We will use this test to help us place you in the correct class for your English level.
  • The test will take approximately 1.5 hours. During your test you will have an oral interview with the Director of Studies or one of our teachers

10:30 – 11:00am

Morning Break

11:00 - 12:00pm

Registration

  • You will receive a Personal Student Folder which contains information about your English Language course, your study timetable, attendance requirements.
  • A Student Handbook, containing useful information about studying at BROWNS English Language School and living in Australia , will also be given to you.

To get your BROWNS Student ID card you will need to bring a passport size photo of yourself.

12:00- 1:30pm

Tour of the surrounding area and Lunch:

  • Southport Library (borrowing rights)
  • Banks (how to open a bank account)
  • Transport (bus timetable and routes)
  • Australia Fair Shopping Centre (shops and food outlets)
  • Lunch at Australia Fair Food Court or in the Park

1:30 – 3:40pm

Classroom Lesson

3:40 – 4:00pm

Meeting with the Director of Studies and your teacher

Questions and answers about your test score and level.

4:00 – 5:00pm

Meet new friends at BROWNS / Use free high-speed email and internet

It is compulsory for students to attend orientation.
